This series represents a merging of mediums: painting and ceramics. The works are a playful departure from my usual, precisely decorated pieces; resulting in mugs that are highly individuated, yet interrelated.  Variable techniques such as marbling, meandering brush strokes, and intuitively placed vinyl resists allow for uniqueness within a predetermined set of aesthetic guidelines.
 
The final designs mimic the laminated metamorphic rocks one might discover in nature, a diagram of an object’s magnetic field, or a representation of aerodynamic trajectories.
 
I chose to work with a limited, more graphic palette to highlight moments of contrast within subtle value shifts. The goal was to experiment with layered imagery that creates a sense of depth and space. A nod to my background in painting, these mugs are the first steps on my journey towards combining my artistic sensibilities.
